Peter Hopkins, a respected System Engineer at the Federal Reserve Board in the Washington DC–Baltimore area, passed away on February 24, 2026.

Peter built a strong and steady career in information technology, earning a reputation for technical excellence and reliability.
He had been serving as a System Engineer at the Federal Reserve Board since November 2015.
During his decade of service, he played a critical role in managing and maintaining enterprise-level communication systems.
He specialized in Microsoft Exchange 2010, 2016, and Exchange Online, overseeing design, implementation, and administration. He also managed Skype for Business 2015 and Microsoft Teams lifecycle operations.
As a Tier 3 support engineer, he handled complex Exchange and Teams-related issues, often stepping in when advanced troubleshooting was required.
Peter was highly skilled in PowerShell scripting and worked extensively with PowerApps and SharePoint Online flows. His coworkers remember him as someone who approached technical challenges with calm focus and practical solutions.
Before joining the Federal Reserve Board, Peter served as a Messaging Engineer at the University of Maryland from 2011 to 2015.
There, he worked on Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 2010 systems and administered Cisco IronPort email security platforms.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a Networking Engineer at IMPAQ International. He managed Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007, VMware 4 environments, Active Directory, and Group Policy systems.
Peter began his professional journey as a Helpdesk Technician at Orc Macro International, where he provided Level 1 and Level 2 desktop support for more than seven years. That foundational role helped shape the strong technical discipline he carried throughout his career.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from York College of Pennsylvania between 2000 and 2004.
Peter Hopkins will be remembered not only for his technical expertise but also for his teamwork and willingness to assist others.
Colleagues describe him as dependable, knowledgeable, and always ready to support his team.
His loss is deeply felt within the Federal Reserve community and the wider IT field in the Washington DC–Baltimore region.
